Bricklayers Union Endorses Ikaika Anderson for Lieutenant Governor

The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 1 of Hawai’i, is pleased to announce its endorsement of former Honolulu City Council Chair Ikaika Anderson for Lieutenant Governor.

“Ikaika Anderson has a record of collaborative leadership as Council Chair, and that is exactly what we need in a Lieutenant Governor,” said Local 1 Business Manager Mel Silva. “As an experienced leader, a caring family man, and a thoughtful problem-solver, we believe that Ikaika Anderson is best prepared to move our State forward.”

Silva added, “With the cost of living continuing to go up, Ikaika Anderson has the best plan for addressing our state’s affordable housing need.”

As Lieutenant Governor, Ikaika Anderson plans to work with the State and Counties to:

  • Review and update the definitions for affordable housing, particularly in the rental market;
  • Review existing inventory of underutilized State and county properties for potential use as sites for affordable rental housing, particularly in the City and County of Honolulu;
  • Consider alternative means of funding and building affordable housing units, such as a non-profit development corporation;
  • Redevelop appropriate Department of Education properties as Work Force Housing; and
  • Create Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) Rental Units for Beneficiaries.

The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, Local 1 of Hawai’i has approximately 1,000 members statewide on all major islands.
