In light of the recent corruption charges that have cast a shadow over the Capitol, former Honolulu City Council Chairman Ikaika Anderson is raising questions regarding a state measure that was passed in 2021, benefitting lawmakers who engaged in illegal affairs, on the taxpayers’ dime.

Anderson said he’s running for the position because the state is “crying out” for quick, decisive leadership.

Council member Ikaika Anderson, who represents Kailua, introduced the “No Sundays” proposal in January, 2011. At the time his proposal would have outlawed all commercial activity in all city beach parks on Sundays.

Anderson has revised his “No Sundays” proposal limiting the prohibition on commercial activity to Kailua Beach Park, Kalama Beach Park, and all city owned beach accesses from Lanikai to the Aikahi end of Kailua Beach.

All nine members of the Honolulu City Council signed a letter urging Gov. David Ige to take stronger steps to isolate the state from outsiders during the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Council Chair Ikaika Anderson supported taking dramatic steps to curb the potential for people to contract the new coronavirus, shutting down some activities while taking more precautions for programs and meetings where there is considerable public contact.
