Former Honolulu City Council Chair Ikaika Anderson is officially running for lieutenant governor.
He announced his candidacy Tuesday at Kailua Beach Park with former Gov. Neil Abercrombie and former Councilmember Ann Kobayashi as his campaign chairs.
Anderson said he’s running for the position because the state is “crying out” for quick, decisive leadership.
“I’m not here to critique, or to criticize, anyone in state government today for their decision-making ability. What I’m saying is that my record speaks for itself,” Anderson said. “Sometimes people don’t agree with the decisions I make, or that I have made, and I’m comfortable with that. But what I would never have, and what I will never have, as lieutenant governor is the people of this state be left hanging because I could not make a decision. That will never happen.”
